Southwest Airlines today reported that its June traffic rose 7.5 percent and capacity rose 6.2 percent, including AirTran Airways, from a year earlier.
The Dallas-based carrier acquired AirTran for $1.4 billion in May.
The combined load factor — the percentage of seats filled with passengers — increased to 83.9 percent from 82.8 percent last year.
Separately, Southwest traffic jumped 8.9 percent and its capacity rose 6.8 percent in June. Its load factor was 83.5 percent, up from 81.9 percent a year earlier.
Also separately, AirTran’s traffic rose 2.4 percent and capacity was up 3.8 percent. Its load factor was 85.3 percent, down from 86.4 percent a year earlier.
Overall, Southwest and AirTran combined boarded about 12.3 million passengers in June.
