The primary advantage, even for those who go on to higher ratings, is that the required flight hours are half that of the private pilot certificate. Why is this important? It means you will get a check-ride earlier in your training. Check-rides tend to be a source of lots of anxiety for new pilots, but the anxiety fades with each one. Getting a sport pilot certificate just adds one sooner in your career.

Sport pilot training is usually cheaper than the average private pilot course. Obviously this is partly due to the lower number of required flight hours, but more efficient LSA play an important role in this as well.
