If you’ve decided on a career as a professional pilot, but you’re not sure where to start, may we recommend starting with sport pilot training? Considering your end goal, it may seem strange, but a sport pilot certificate is a great way to start your career.

The primary advantage, even for those who go on to higher ratings, is that the required flight hours are half that of the private pilot certificate. Why is this important? It means you will get a check-ride earlier in your training. Check-rides tend to be a source of lots of anxiety for new pilots, but the anxiety fades with each one. Getting a sport pilot certificate just adds one sooner in your career.
Sport pilot training is usually cheaper
Sport pilot training is usually cheaper than the average private pilot course. Obviously this is partly due to the lower number of required flight hours, but more efficient LSA play an important role in this as well. With aircraft available for training that burn less fuel and cost less to buy, rental costs are not as high.
