Are You Considering in Nebraska?

You’ll think Nebraska is a suitable place for school if you like prairies and don’t have a problem with snow. You might see up to 20 inches of snow here in the winter. Winter temperatures can go down to 10 degrees. Summer temperatures can be as high as 87 degrees.

There’s a lot to do in this state. Visitors to the state spent over three billion dollars in 2009.

The biggest city in the state is Omaha. There are a variety of things to do here. The Old Market area of the city is a historic district with stores and restaurants. There are more stores and restaurants at Westroads Mall and Oak View Mall.

You’ll see different types of exhibits at the museums in Omaha. Exhibits at the Durham Museum focus on the history of Omaha. There are over 11,000 works of art from around the world at the Joslyn Art Museum. Freedom Park is a United States Naval Museum. You can see a submarine, a minesweeper and shipboard rocket launchers here. The General Crook House Museum is a restored home that was built in 1879.

Omaha has a lot of things to see besides museums. You’ll have a good view of the Missouri River if you take a riverboat cruise. Visiting the Kountze Planetarium will give you a chance to attend a program on astronomy. You can see animals, birds and insects at the Henry Doorly Zoo. You’ll be able to see gardens, an arboretum and a bird sanctuary at Lauritzen Gardens.

There are plenty of places in the city to engage in outdoor activities. Oak Heights Park has a swimming pool and tennis courts. You’ll be able to play golf at the city’s public golf courses. The Fontenelle Forest has 26 miles of walking trails.

Lincoln is the second biggest city in the state. It is about 57 miles southwest of Omaha. This city has a lot to offer residents and visitors. There are things to do indoors and outdoors.

Some of the things to see in Lincoln are historic sites and museums. The Thomas P. Kennard House was built in 1869. The International Quilt Study Center & Museum has a large collection of quilts. Displays at the Nebraska History Museum focus on the history of the state and its early settlers. You’ll see some examples of early models of telephones at the Frank H. Woods Telephone Pioneer Museum. The Larsen Tractor Museum has displays of plows, yokes and tractors.

There are a lot of things to see outdoors in Lincoln. The gardens at the Pioneers Park Nature Center have prairie plants and herbs. You can see some native Nebraskan plants in the Rotary Strolling Garden at Antelope Park. The Hamann Rose Garden is also at Antelope Park.
