Thinking about Flight Schools in Maine?

Maine is a good choice for Flight Schools if you like the outdoors and don’t mind the cold. The winters here are long and snowy. Temperatures can go down to five degrees during the winter and may not get above 24 degrees. The average snowfall in the state is 78 inches. Summer temperatures can go up to 77 degrees. The terrain in this state includes lakes, rivers, streams, mountains and forests.

Portland is the largest city in the state. It is on Casco Bay in the southern part of the state. You’ll find plenty to do outdoors all year round if you’re going to school here. You can go cross country skiing. The ski area at Shawnee Peak is less than an hour away from Portland. You can go ice skating and sledding at Riverside Snow Park and Payson Terrain Park. You’ll be able to enjoy the beaches during the summer. You can swim at Willard Beach and East End Beach. A sailing trip in Casco Bay on a schooner will give you an opportunity to see the Maine coast. Sebago Lake State Park has places for swimming, boating and sport fishing.

Portland has a number of other attractions. You can ride antique trains at the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Co. & Museum. The museum at Portland Head Light has lighthouse lenses on display. Fort Williams Park is adjacent to the museum. There are places for hiking in the park. You’ll be able to go cross country skiing here in the winter.

You can attend performances by the Portland Symphony Orchestra. Taking a tour of the Portland Observatory will give you a chance to learn about the area’s maritime history.

Lewiston is the second largest city in the state. It is an inland city north of Portland. The collections at the Museum L-A in Lewiston focus on the history of the area’s industries. You can see exhibits on textile making, shoe making and brick making. The Bates College Museum of Art has artwork by the students at the college. You can take a day trip from Lewiston to York. There are places for harbor cruises and deep sea fishing at York Harbor. The largest zoo in the state is in York.

Bangor is the state’s third largest city. It is just over 100 miles north of Lewiston. You’ll be able to participate in a lot of outdoor activities in the City Forest in the Bangor area. There are trails where you can hike, run and bike. During the winter you’ll be able to go snowshoeing and cross country skiing here.

Visiting the Cole Land Transportation Museum is another thing to do in Bangor. The Bangor Museum and History Center has postcards, photographic prints and daguerreotypes of the area. There is a collection of Civil War artifacts at the museum.
