You’ll think that New Hampshire is a pretty place for further education if you like hills and forests. Winters in this state are snowy and long. The yearly snowfalls here can be as much as 63 inches. The average low temperature in January is in the 20s. Temperatures during the summer go up to 70 degrees.

Manchester is the largest city in the state. Nashua is the second largest city. It is about 19 miles from Manchester.

Manchester was founded in the 1700s. You can learn about the history of this region by visiting historic sites and museums in the Manchester area. Exhibits at the Millyard Museum focus on all the people who have lived in the area. There’s information on the people who were here over 11,000 years ago. You can learn about the early farmers in the area and the history of the textile industry in Manchester. Visiting the Manchester Historic Association Research Center will give you a chance to research the area’s history.

You’ll see different types of exhibits at other museums in the area. The Currier Museum of Art has approximately 13,000 pieces of American and European art. Boy Scout memorabilia is displayed at the Lawrence L. Lee Scouting Museum. You’ll learn about the history of credit unions at America’s Credit Union Museum. The Aviation Museum of New Hampshire has exhibits on the state’s history of aviation.

There’s more to do in Manchester while you’re going to school here. You can see operas, musicals and ballets at the Palace Theatre. The New Hampshire Philharmonic Orchestra also performs at this theatre. You’ll be able to attend hockey games and concerts at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The Mall of New Hampshire has several department stores and 125 smaller stores. You can also shop at the Shoppes of Historic Downtown.

You’ll find things to do outdoors in Manchester all year round. You can see the brilliant colors of leaves during the fall foliage season. You’ll be able to go skiing at the McIntyre Ski Area during the winter. The JFK Coliseum Ice Skating Rink is open to the public. You can hike at Blodget Park during the spring and summer. There are walking trails at Piscataquog River Park and Livingston Park. There are places for fishing and boating at Nutt’s Pond at Precourt Park.

The White Mountains are about two hours from Manchester. You can find something to do here all year round if you decide to further your education in New Hampshire. You can hike and fish during the summer. There are beaches by the mountain lakes where you can sunbathe and swim. You’ll find a lot of places for skiing here during the winter. You’ll be able to see scenic views of mountains and waterfalls. You can drive through the mountains on the 100 mile White Mountains Trail.
