Temperatures in Little Rock get up to just over 90 degrees in the summer and down into the 30s during the winter. There are plenty of places to enjoy the outdoors in Little Rock. Riverfront Park is on the bank of a river. Part of the Arkansas River Trail goes through this park. This river trail has 17 miles of trails for walking. You can bike or hike in Allsopp Park. You値l be able to see animals at the Little Rock Zoo and plants at the Little Rock Nature Center. The garden at Curran Hall has a variety of flowers.
You値l find a number of indoor attractions in Little Rock also. Museums in the city include a museum of military history, the Old State House Museum, the Museum of Discovery and a maritime museum.
Fort Smith is 160 miles northwest of Little Rock. It is in a river valley and has mountains on two sides. The average temperatures here are the same as they are in Little Rock. You値l find plenty of places to engage in outdoor activity if you attend training in Fort Smith. You can walk around the lake at Carol Ann Cross Park. The Jack Creek Recreation Area is about an hour away in Booneville. This area in the Ouachita National Forest has places for hiking, swimming and kayaking. You can take a drive through the Boston Mountains Scenic Loop if you want to see part of the Ozarks. This drive from Fort Smith can be done in a day.
The Buffalo National River is a two and a half hour drive from Fort Smith. Over one million people visit it each year. You can drive on the scenic roads near the river. You値l be able to hike through the area if you want to get a closer look at waterfalls and the sites of historic homes. You can rent a canoe if you want to travel on the river. There are places in the area for camping and fishing.
Some of the museums in Fort Smith are the Fort Smith Trolley Museum, the Fort Smith Museum of History and the Fort Smith Air Museum. You can take a train trip from the Trolley Museum in an antique railroad passenger car. This trip goes through the Boston Mountains and a river valley. You値l appreciate the Belle Grove Historic District and the Fort Smith National Historic Site if you like history.
