Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved Aircraft Dispatcher Training Course

American Flyers has official approval to offer FAA Aircraft Dispatcher as per CFR 14 Part 65 Subpart C (65.51 through 65.70) and Appendix A.

Our Program provides training from instructors who have experience in both Domestic and Flag Airline Carrier Operations. Their instruction also encompasses Parts 91, 125 and 135 thus making our graduates suitable for all dispatch positions.

Students receive specific training in the importance of the safety of flight.

Students will prepare the flight plan, weight and balance, weather package, passenger and cargo distribution and fuel requirements as per the FAA requirements for the flight.

The course is designed for six (6) weeks and it includes the FAA written test and the oral/practical examination by an FAA Designated Examiner. The tuition is $3,295 (not including lodging and meals) plus an additional fee of $300 for the oral/practical examination to be paid by the student to the FAA Designated Examiner.

Gordon Barnes is our Dispatch Training Manager/Instructor and has over 50 years of experience in the airline and television weather industries. He also has years of experience on dispatch instruction. Robert Wisniewski is currently a Dispatch Supervisor with American Eagle Airlines and is part of our Instructor team. He also has over 20 years of Air Traffic Controller experience.


Subjects include:
Aircraft Dispatcher School American Flyers
  • Regulations - FAR's for Parts 1, 61, 71, 91, 121, 135 and 175.
  • 49 CFR part 830
  • Meteorology - Basic weather theory; weather analysis of systems; types of weather; global pressure patterns; wind; clouds; airmasses; observations and forecasts and data collection.
  • Navigation - Polar stereographic and Mercator charts; flight instruments; high and low altitude enroute charts; terminal area charts; approach plates. ETOPS and oceanic route navigation equipment requirements; NDB/VOR/ILS/INS.
  • Aircraft - Systems overview - Flight controls; electrical, hydraulic; fuel; air conditioning and pressurization systems; Ice and rain protection; avionics; emergency and abnormal procedures; MEL/CDL applications; takeoff, enroute and landing performance; weight and balance.
  • Communications - Notams; domestic and international communication systems
  • Air Traffic Control - National and international airspace; clearances; holding.
  • Emergency and Abnormal Procedures - TSA security; transponder codes; overdue and missing aircraft; required reporting of emergency and NTSB reporting requirements
  • Practical Dispatch Applications - Human factors, crew requirements; hazardous material shipments; weather analysis; go/no go decisions; ground hold delays; flight watch; departure and arrival procedures; dispatch releases (original, re-dispatch); flight overview economics.
