Quality flight instruction is the key to safely capturing the skills needed to master the art of flying a helicopter. At C-R Helicopters, custom designed, FAA approved courses take you from entry level to the most advanced qualification possible.

Over the years, we have carefully developed our own syllabus that plan the activities of each lesson to the last detail. This maximizes the amount of learning on each flight so that you will get the most efficient, cost effective training possible.

C-R Helicopters has a fleet of five R-22 helicopters and two R-44 helicopters that we use for training.

PPL: Private Pilot License
The first step to an exciting hobby or career. The private license will allow you to fly for fun, take friends and family for rides, provide yourself with aerial transportation, or build flight time for future ratings.

To become a helicopter pilot you need to meet the following requierments:
  • Be at least 17 years old.

  • Flight time - 40 hours

  • Dual Instruction - 20 hours

  • Solo - 10 hours

  • Ground School

  • Third Class Medical Certificate

  • Pass an FAA Knowledge Exam

  • Pass an Flight Exam

CPL: Commercial Pilot License
The commercial license is the next step on the professional helicopter pilot’s path to success. The commercial license is required to fly for hire. In addition to perfecting the maneuvers you learned during your private training, your commercial training will introduce you to advanced helicopter maneuvers.

To become a commercial helicopter pilot you need to mee the following requerments:
  • 18 Years old

  • Hold at least a private pilot certificate

  • Pass a written test given by the FAA.

  • Pass an oral, and flight test

  • Logged 150 hours of flight time, of which 50 hours must be in helicopters

  • Logged 100 hours of PIC flight time,of which at least 35 hours must be in helicoper

  • 20 hours of training with an instructor

  • 10 hours of solo flight time in a helicopter


IR: Instrument Rating
The instrument rating is necessary for flight into adverse weather conditions, and our instrument training program will teach you to both control and navigate the aircraft solely by reference to the instruments.

Hold at least a current private pilot certificate

Steps to get a IR(H):
  • Pass a written test given by the FAA.

  • Fulfill the minimum requirements of flight time and training specified by the FAA (see below).

  • Pass an oral, and flight test

Minimum requirements for a IR(H) - Part 61:
  • Have logged at least 50 hours of cross-country flight time as pilot in command, of which at least 10 hours must be in helicopters

  • Have a total of 40 hours of actual or simulated instrument time including at least 15 hours of instrument flight training in a helicopter.

CFI: Certified Flight Instructor Rating
Flight Instructor is often the first flying position a commercial pilot will earn. A Certified Flight Instructor Rating (CFI) is required for a pilot to give instruction to other pilots,

To become a Certified Flight Instructor pilot you need to meet the following requierments:
  • Hold Commercial or ATP Pilot Certificate

  • Hold Second Class Medical

  • Be at least 18 years old.

  • Ground Instruction available.

  • Pass an FAA Fundamentals of Instruction (FOI) and CFI Knowledge Exam

  • Pass an Oral / Flight Exam

Course Objective: To enable the Commercial pilot to obtain the aeronautical knowledge, skill and experience necessary to meet the FAA requirements for a Certified Flight Instructor with a Rotorcraft category. Helicopter class rating. The Course also prepares the Commercial Pilot for the FAA CFI Knowledge test and Flight exams.

CFII: Certified Flight Instructor Instruments for Helicopters:
This course is for flight instructors with a helicopter-instrument rating, who want to provide instrument flight training.

The training will be adjusted to your individual needs and previous experience.
