Hillsboro Aero Academy
Turn your dream into a career at Hillsboro Aero Academy, formerly Hillsboro Aviation, where we have been training professional pilots since 1980. Flying 69,000+ hours annually, we are one of the largest combined helicopter flight training and airplane flight training schools in the United States.
Located in the picturesque Pacific Northwest, our school has trained thousands of pilots from over 75 countries, and our graduates fly for companies around the world.
The experience of flying in the weather and terrain of the Pacific Northwest is unequaled. Flying in this environment prepares our graduates for their future careers and gives them a competitive advantage in the job market. Organizations and pilots from all over the world choose our school because of the opportunity to encounter real-world flying conditions and the valuable experience this provides them.
What sets Hillsboro Aero Academy apart from other flight schools is that we are approved to offer two visa programs, the F-1 Visa and the M-1 Visa. Very few schools can offer the F-1 Visa which allows you to work as a pilot in the U.S. upon completion of your training. This is an excellent way to build hours making you more employable when you return to your home country.

Earn a Degree
Hillsboro Aero Academy, in conjunction with Portland Community College (PCC) and Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU)-Portland Campus, is proud to offer our students the option to earn a two-year Associate of Applied Science Degree or a four-year Bachelor of Science Degree in Aeronautics while also completing the necessary flight training.
Students first enroll in PCC’s Aviation Science program and take general studies courses such as math and science as well as aviation specific academic courses such as applied aerodynamics and economics of flight operations. They complete their flight and ground training at one of Hillsboro Aero Academy’s campuses.
The associate degree program takes 21 months to complete, and the student will graduate with an Associate of Applied Science Degree, FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate and Instrument Rating with options for Flight Instructor Ratings.
Students wishing to continue their collegiate education may transfer their college credits from PCC to ERAU - Portland Campus. The schools have an articulation agreement that guarantees admission to ERAU as long as the student has at least a 2.0 grade point average. It also guarantees that the college credits received through PCC will transfer to ERAU and count toward a Bachelor of Science Degree. The ERAU portion of the degree program takes about 24 months for a total of approximately four years to complete a Bachelor of Science Degree and the required flight training.
