Ocean Aviation Flight Academy
Instrument Rating (IR)
Whether you are planning to continue your training here at Ocean Aviation Flight Academy after attaining your private pilot certificate or you have already attained your private certificate and are seeking your instrument rating, Ocean Aviation is the place to gain your advanced ratings.
As a Cessna Pilot Center and a FAA Approved Part 141 flight school, we offer the professional training environment so important when training for your instrument rating. Being a Part 141 Flight Academy means we are overseen by the FAA and must maintain a level of professionalism most flight schools do not choose to attain. As a Cessna Pilot Center, we offer a computer-based curriculum that is recognized by the aviation community as one of the finest learning experiences available to perspective students. The Cessna Pilot Center instrument pilot course is available only at Cessna Pilot Centers.
What You Need To Get Started
The FAA Instrument Rating is a rating issued by the Federal Aviation Administration, which allows a pilot to legally operate an aircraft in instrument meteorological conditions or IFR flight. More importantly, it allows a pilot to operate within the IFR system that professional pilots prefer. In today’s complex airspace most feel an instrument rating is essential.
In order to earn an instrument rating, a pilot must possess a private pilot certificate, complete a knowledge test and a practical flight test, which we refer to as your "check ride" with a designated flight examiner.
Prior to enrolling in our instrument rating, you must have at least a private pilot certificate, a current bi anneal flight review and a current medical certificate. If your bi anneal flight review is not current, we can complete that prior to enrollment. If you are not an American citizen, you will also need to complete a TSA screening process. No worries, we can guide you through that process.
Once TSA screening is complete and your medical/student pilot certificate is issued, you are ready to enroll in our Part 141 instrument pilot course. Enrollment in our Cessna instrument pilot course includes being listed with Cessna in our program, acquiring all your course material, which includes your new flight bag, and meeting your instructor and our staff for the first time.
Time and Hours
The Federal Aviation Administration, under part 141 of the Federal Aviation Regulations has set a minimum time for an applicant to obtain an instrument rating at 35 hours. With each of our students, our goal is to provide the most professional training available and complete your training within 35 to 40 hours. Almost all candidates in our accelerated FAA Approved 141 program will complete the course in no more than 40 hours of flight training. To accomplish this, our students should be prepared to immerse themselves in the instrument pilot course to the extent required to move rapidly though the training. Most candidates will fly between two and three hours daily and will allow an additional two to four hours for computer based training. Most candidates can expect to complete our course in less than thirty days.
For many students, the accelerated program is not suitable. Those students can schedule their training so as to better suit their lifestyles. Many students train at their own pace to make the training fit their own schedules. Training two or three times weekly definitely an option.
Tuition is based upon student enrollment and an accelerated training schedule and completion in the FAA minimum number of flight hours. Most students do not complete in the minimum number of hours and so we request that you contact our enrollment counselors at firstname.lastname@example.org. They are trained professionals that will take the time to discuss your individual course requirements. They are happy to discuss a schedule and price quote based on your individual needs.
