Safety Considerations When Choosing a School

There are many considerations to be made when choosing a flight school that will prepare for your career in aviation. The following provides some points of interest you should explore in making your decision about which flight school will provide not only the best, but the safest training available. Do the training aircraft have?
  • Glass Cockpit Technology: UND operates next-generation glass panel equipped training aircraft which prepares students for the transition to advanced aircraft This technology simplifies aircraft operation and navigation to allow pilots to focus only on the most pertinent information.
  • Simulators/FTD: 12 aircraft simulators/FDT to complement the training provided in each aviation flight course. Our simulators provide the opportunity for specialized training that is difficult to replicate in actual aircraft. From emergency training to flights into the busiest airports in the United States, UND students are given the opportunity to excel in every aspect of their training.
  • ADS-B: (Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast) this system allows pilots to "see" other aircraft as well as terrain features that may minimize the possibility of midair collisions and CFIT (controlled Flight into Terrain).
  • Pulsing Aircraft Lights: Pulsing aircraft lights provide increased aircraft visibility during night flights and during reduced visibility weather conditions. Pulsing lights also provide increase reaction times for avian wildlife resulting in a potential decrease in bird strike incidents.
  • Overhead windows: These are sometimes referred to as skylights, which are important for collision avoidance.
  • Airbags: Specially designed for aircraft these airbags are integrated in to the seat belt restraints. These airbags deploy outward in the event of a sudden impact.
