| You’ll find a lot to do in Minnesota all year long if you go to school here. This state gets cold in the winter when temperatures go down to 20 degrees. You might see snow here from November through April. Snowfall totals for the month of January can be as much as 10 inches. The high temperature here in the summer is about 84 degrees. The terrain in this state is mostly flat. You’ll see lakes, flat land and some hills here. The two largest cities in the state are Minneapolis and St. Paul. These cities are next to each other and are known as the Twin Cities. There’s a lot to do and see in the Twin Cities area. The Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis covers an area of 11 blocks. Traffic in this area is restricted to service vehicles. There are department stores, smaller shops and restaurants here. The Minnesota Orchestra performs at Orchestra Hall. You can ice skate outdoors at Peavey Plaza and indoors at the Depot Rink during the winter. You’ll see a variety of art and sculpture at the Walker Art Center and the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. You can walk through downtown Minneapolis in climate controlled skyways which are one story above the street. You’ll find a lot of parks in Minneapolis. Some of the parks are known as the Chain of Lakes. These parks are along the edge of a group of connecting lakes. You can walk or bike along the path that circles the Chain. Lake Hiawatha Park has a beach and tennis courts. Minnehaha Falls Park is home to the John H. Stevens House. This house was built in 1849 and objects related to the founding of Minneapolis are displayed here. You can tour historic houses in neighboring St. Paul. The Alexander Ramsey House was built during the Victorian area. The James J. Hill House dates back to 1891. A tour of this home will give you a picture of life in a mansion during the 19th century. You’ll find some interesting places to visit in downtown St. Paul. The museums in the downtown area are the Science Museum of Minnesota, the Minnesota Children’s Museum and the Minnesota Museum of American Art. The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and the Minnesota Opera perform at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts. You can walk through downtown in climate controlled skyways. Other areas of St. Paul have attractions worth visiting. You can see a variety of animals and plants at the Como Park Zoo & Conservatory. The Mall of America in Bloomington is about 16 miles from the Twin Cities. Over 35 million people visit this mall every year. The mall has over 500 stores, an aquarium, movie theaters, restaurants and a comedy club.
