| You’ve probably heard of Idaho potatoes. You’ll learn about a lot of other things in Idaho if you decide to obtain further education here. The scenery you’ll see in this state includes forests, rivers, lakes and mountains. The low temperatures during the winter can be below 30 degrees and temperatures in the summer usually won’t get above 90 degrees. The largest city in the state is Boise. Some of the places you can visit if you attend training here include Zoo Boise, the Boise Art Museum, the Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology, the Old Idaho Penitentiary and the Idaho Military History Museum. Boise has many typical big city amenities. You can shop at Boise Towne Square Mall and go to the movies. There are basketball games at the Qwest Arena. There are plays, concerts and operas at the Morrison Center for the Performing Arts. Events in downtown Boise include Fall for Boise in the autumn and the Holiday Tree Lighting at the end of November. Fresh produce is sold at the Capital City Public Market on Saturdays. There are outdoor attractions in and near Boise. The Boise River runs through Boise. You can walk on the Greenbelt River Trail next to the river. You’ll be able to see numerous birds near the river during the spring and summer. There are places to go rafting and kayaking on the river during the summer. You can participate in a lot of outdoor activities in Idaho’s national forests. The Sawtooth National Forest is a two and a half hour drive from Boise. Climbing, hiking, boating and fishing are some of the things you can do here during the summer months. There are over 1,000 lakes in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. There are plenty of places for camping in the area. Things to do here during the winter months include cross-country skiing, ice skating, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. Boise National Forest is north of Boise. You’ll see pine, fir and spruce trees here. There are almost 300 species of animals, birds and fish in this forest. You can ride horses and hunt here. Scenic drives through the forest will give you a chance to see deer and elk during the winter. You can take a drive from Boise through the forest which will take you to Idaho City. This is a historic town where you can see buildings that date back to the gold rush in the 1860s. You can see some artifacts from this time period at the Boise Basin Museum.
