Hawaii is a tropical paradise. The seven million tourists who visited the state in 2010 would seem to agree. Going to school anywhere in the state means you’ll be on a tropical island. The mixture of geography on the islands includes beaches, valleys and mountains. You’ll find beautiful weather here. High temperatures during the summer range from 85 degrees to 90 degrees. Winter is only slightly cooler with high temperatures ranging from 79 degrees to 83 degrees.

The largest city in the state is Honolulu on the island of Oahu. The Honolulu area has plenty of beaches, historic sites, natural attractions, stores and restaurants serving native cuisine.

You can swim, surf, sunbathe and snorkel on Honolulu’s beaches. You can take a canoe out on the ocean in a canoe. You’ll be able to sample native cuisine while you’re taking a dinner cruise.

There are a lot of historical sites and museums in the Honolulu area. ‘Iolani Palace was a residence for Hawaiin royalty. It was built in 1882 and two floors are open for tours. You can visit the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor. Washington Place was built in the 1840s and can be toured. This was the family home of Queen Liliuokalani who was the last Hawaiian queen. The Mission Houses Museum has three houses where the first Christian missionaries to the islands lived. The Frame House was built in 1821. The Chamberlain House dates back to 1831 and the Printing Office was constructed in 1841.

You can enjoy the state’s beautiful scenery at natural attractions in the Honolulu area. You’ll see panoramic views of Oahu if you hike to the Diamond Head summit. Kapiolani Park was established in the 1870s. Some of the trees in this 500 acre park are over 100 years old. There are free concerts here on Sunday afternoons. You can see orchids and other tropical plants at Foster Botanical Garden.

Honolulu shops include upscale designer stores and places to buy goods that are made in the islands. Native cuisine available at the restaurants here includes kalua pig, poi and long rice.

Maui, Hawaii and Kauai are other Hawaiian islands you’ll enjoy visiting. You can visit the Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum on Maui to learn about the area’s sugar industry. Taking the Road to Hana through Maui’s mountains will give you a chance to see some of the island’s beautiful scenery. You can visit the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on the island of Hawaii. You’ll have a chance to see rainforests and beaches with black sand on this island. Visiting the island of Kauai will give you a chance to hike in the Waimea Canyon or take a boat tour of the Wailua River.
