Who is Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology?

Established in 1928, Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology has trained over 100,000 pilots and technicians. We have campuses located in the following areas: Tulsa, OK; Los Angeles, CA; Inland Empire, CA; and Denver, CO. Spartan students have come from across the United States and over 62 countries.

From the beginning, Spartan College has worked to provide current and innovative training programs to prepare our graduates for the aviation industry. Besides the Tulsa Oklahoma Campus, Spartan College operates three additional locations with more than 247,000 square feet of training facilities, classrooms, and administrative space.

Spartan College Program Overview

Those who graduate from the AMT program at Spartan College are trained to work on aircraft components and systems including airframes, piston engines, turbine engines, hydraulic systems, propellers, rigging, warning systems, and environmental systems.

Spartan College Los Angeles Area Campus Highlights

The technical facilities at our Los Angeles area campus can accommodate approximately 500 students. Classrooms occupy in excess of 19,000 square feet and labs occupy an area of 40,000 square feet. Spartan College features an array of industry-relevant training aids that include, but are not limited to:

  • Reciprocating and turbine powerplants
  • Variety of carburetors, magnetos, turbochargers, and propellers
  • Sheet metal shop containing brakes and shears
  • Press and pneumatic drill
  • Riveting equipment
  • Shops used for the study of wood, fabric, fiberglass, Plexiglas, and composites
  • Aircraft electricity lab
  • Additional equipment used to study aircraft navigation, flight and communication instruments

Airframe & Powerplant

Those who graduate from the AMT or A&P programs at Spartan College are trained to work on aircraft components and systems including airframes, piston engines, turbine engines, hydraulic systems, propellers, rigging, warning systems, and environmental systems.

Training in our program can also help you develop a versatile skill set that is utilized in other industries, such as automotive and diesel, heavy equipment, power and light, and industrial technology. Our program provides a 50/50 balance between lab and lecture to practice theory in a hands-on environment.

Aviation Electronics Technology

Our program is designed to teach students entry-level technical skills in electronics that are applicable in aviation as well as other industries. Students study FAA regulations and learn the proper use of basic tools and test equipment, study electronic theory, high-reliability soldering and wiring, and have hands-on training in the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic and avionics systems.

Those who graduate from the AET Program at Spartan College have been trained in theories and skills used across many different positions and industries. This includes but is not limited to Aerospace, Communications, Simulator Development, Robotics, UAV, production, renewable energy, and beyond.

Flight Schools - Training the Next Generation of Pilots

Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology provides training to pilots in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Spartan College’s 40,000 sq ft Flight Facility is located at the Richard L. Jones Airport (RVS) on the south side of Tulsa.

Typical graduates of our FAA part 141 approved Aviation Flight program may apply to continue on to take the Bachelor of Science in Technology Management program, as well as apply to work as a Certified Flight Instructor.

As a result, once completing the bachelor’s program, our flight graduates may have obtained over 1200 flight hours and would be qualified to obtain their restricted Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with the FAA.

Our History

Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology was founded in Tulsa, Oklahoma as Spartan School of Aeronautics by W.G. Skelly, President of Skelly Oil Company, on September 27, 1928. He established Spartan Aircraft Company and formed the corporation which built Tulsa Municipal Airport (now called Tulsa International Airport).
